This year is especially meaningful for Mardi Gras because 2012 is Sister Margaret Ann Moser’s final year as President of Ursuline Academy. Sister was implemental in developing Ursuline’s first Mardi Gras Gala in 1991, so this is an appropriate time to recognize her and the extraordinary volunteer leaders who worked closely with Sister over the years and played key roles in the growth of Mardi Gras and the endowed scholarship program. We are delighted that this year’s Honorary Krewe is comprised of many of these remarkable volunteers. So many young women have been able to share in the Ursuline traditions and spirit over the years thanks to Sister and countless volunteers who, over the past 21 years, have given generously of their time, talent and resources

Under Sister Margaret Anne’s leadership, Ursuline has seen great achievements in infrastructure, enrollment and parental involvement, and her example has left a lasting impression on countless Ursuline graduates. Her commitment to the community extends far beyond the school.

At Ursuline, Sister Margaret Ann led a successful $10 million capital campaign from 1993-2000 to fund campus expansion and improvements, including the addition of the Jane Neuhoff Athletic Center (1996) and the Ursuline Center for Performing Arts (2000). She has directed the Academy through a $22 million campus renewal, including construction of The French Family Science, Math, and Technology Center and new music building, as well as significant growth in endowments.

A Dallas native, Sister Margaret Ann attended Ursuline Academy in both elementary and high school, and has served as the school’s president since 1989, making her the longest-serving leader in Ursuline’s history. She also is a member of the Board of Trustees, and upon her retirement in 2012, will take on the position of president emerita with the Ursuline Academy of Dallas Foundation

This legacy is incalculable and we are grateful to Sister Margaret Ann and the wonderful volunteers and generous patrons who have been instrumental in supporting Mardi Gras over the years.

“Words can never express how thankful I am for you for all you have done to help me obtain an Ursuline education. I always thank Ursuline for what they have given me, but truly, the individuals who have donated to my scholarship are the basis of it all. I will be the first one in my family to go to college. I knew in my heart that this day would come; I just didn’t know God’s plans for how it would happen. Daily, I thank God for the blessing of your generous spirit.”
